Speaking to the Spanish media in support of the Mallorca Open, Toni Nadal said he sees Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev as contenders for the next level.

“Tsitsipas played the final (2021) in which he beat Djokovic 2-0, we will also have to see if Zverev catches the wave, who is also playing very well, but the three main candidates are Alcaras, Djokovic and Rafael,” — Tony Nadal. This was reported by the Spanish media.

The 19-year-old Alcaraz made history as the first man to consecutively defeat clay king Rafael Nadal and champion Djokovic in a clay tournament when he beat them back to back en route to the Mutua Madrid Open crown.

“(Alcaraz) is a special player,” said Toni Nadal. “He does everything and does everything well. How far he will go, I don’t know, but he has the ability to be very tall and I’m sure we’ll see him win a lot of titles.”

Felix Auger-Aliassime’s current coach also said that Rafa Nadal, who is on the list of contenders for next month’s Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, is training and looking good in training.

“I saw Rafael training the other day and he is at a good level,” Toni Nadal said. “Then we will see in matches, maybe he lacks rhythm.

“In the last six months, he has competed very little and it always shows, although he has always been a player who caught on very quickly.”
