Author: Dino Stambolic
The first day of the 2023 European Junior Cup in Sarajevo proved that the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina received the EJU award as the best technical organizer of 2022 for a reason.
The recognition received from the European Judo Union is an additional responsibility for future events such as the competitions that will take place on 18 and 19 March in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In 2022, we organized several large and important competitions. I can say that we are very proud of the award we received from EJU as the best technical organizer in 2022 in Europe, which commits us to be even better in the future,

said Ms. Arijana JAHA, Secretary General of the National Federation, former Olympic athlete, coach and sports commissioner of the EJU.
The competition, held at the Arena Hotel Hills, on distinctive red and yellow tatami mats, attracted 268 judokas (166 men and 102 women) from 18 countries.
At last year’s World Cadet Judo Championships in Sarajevo, Lintoi CHANAMBAM made history by becoming the first ever world judo champion from India. The success of the young Indian judoka has clearly become the best recommendation for her and her compatriots to visit Sarajevo again. Unfortunately for them, this time they did not manage to climb the podium.
The first gold medal of the day went to Poland, Martine GLUBYAK, who was better than the French judoka Silchia MAYLA.
I am very happy that I finally won the gold medal. I am glad that the efforts invested in training have paid off, and I sincerely hope that I will continue to continue in the same rhythm,
said Martina Glubyak, the winner in the weight category up to 63 kg.

Martina’s coach Jacek KOWALSKI made no secret of his satisfaction with the result.
This is her first gold since winning silver in the last five finals. I am satisfied with her work, in the club and in the national team. I look forward to new results and I hope that there will be more medals.
Alexandra KOVALEVSKAYA gave the Poles another reason to rejoice by winning gold in the 70 kg category. The total dominance of the Polish judoists was confirmed by Alexandra TUREK, who won in the weight category up to 78 kg.
Nemanja MAYDOV, Serbian judoka and world champion in 2017, showed great support to his younger colleagues who finished the first day of the competition with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
Anastasia BOGDANOVICH won Serbian gold in the category over 78 kilograms, defeating the Bosnian judoka Lana BELICA.
Yoan DZITAK from Romania dominated the 73 kg category. He took the gold medal in the most populous category at the 2023 European Youth Championships in Sarajevo with ippon against Luke DAVIES of Great Britain.

For the Briton, this was the first junior competition. His trainer and mother, Joe CROWLEY, were very pleased with his performance.
We are very pleased, especially considering that this is the first youth competition for Luke. I always feel great in Sarajevo, we know we won’t miss anything,
said Crowley, who this time was in Sarajevo as a coach, in contrast to her previous visit to the Bosnian capital when she was part of the IJF team that helped organize the World Cadets Championship.
The silver medalist in the U73 category was very pleased with the second place.
It was my first junior competition and I can’t be dissatisfied. The competition was strong and I can’t help but praise the excellent facilities, especially the warm-up area,
said Davis, who hopes to defend his last year’s title at the next competition in Bremen.
Competitions at the 2023 European Junior Cup in Sarajevo will continue tomorrow at 09:00.
