Rafael Nadal’s participation on the Monte Carlo roster was confirmed by the tournament on March 23rd, but the Spanish clay court legend isn’t quite ready to say he intends to play in the Principality on April 8th. 16.

“I don’t know who is getting this information, but it’s obvious that if it were true, I would confirm it, but unfortunately I can’t confirm it,” Nadal said, according to Marca. “I follow my course and I don’t know when I will play again, it’s true. I am in the phase of increasing work. If I knew when I was going to return, I would say so, but I don’t know.”

Nadal, who has been training regularly on clay lately, confirmed that his status is currently changing and can be classified as “day by day”.

“I can’t confirm that I will play in Monte Carlo, things happen day by day. I prefer to say what I really know.”

The Spaniard will want to be careful as there is so much at stake in the coming months. The main goal, of course, is to make a strong bid for the 15th Roland Garros and the 23rd major Roland Garros title starting May 28th.

Nadal was out after the Australian Open when he suffered a second-degree left hip flexor injury in a second-round loss to American Mackenzie McDonald at the Australian Open. The initial deadline was given at 6-8 weeks, January 18th.

Buenas Tardes. He realized pruebas médicas tras la derrota en el día de ayer. La resonancia magnética muestra una lesion grado 2 en el Psoas Iliaco de su pierna izquierda. Ahora toca reposo deportivo y fisioterapia anti inflamatoria. Recovery time is normal 6 to 8 seasons. pic.twitter.com/xwcKSyTzhp
