Australian Matt Ebden and Indian partner Rohan Bopanna have advanced to the men’s doubles final of the BNP Paribas Open.

Matt Ebden and Indian partner Rohan Bopanna advanced to the men’s doubles final in Indian Wells.

Today they eliminated American favorites and defending champions John Isner and Jack Sock in a close-fought semi-final battle to eventually win 7-6(6) 7-6(2) in a no-break match.

Ebden and Bopanna saved all nine break points they faced in the one hour and 38 minutes of the meeting.

This propels Ebden to his first ATP Masters 1000 final.

The 35-year-old from Perth also becomes the second Australian to reach the men’s doubles final in the California desert since 2006. Ebden now hopes to emulate John Pierce’s winning run in 2021.

The best team in the world, Wesley Koolhoff of the Netherlands and Britain’s Neil Skupsky, are waiting for the title match.

This is the third time in the final of the last four tournaments for Ebden and Bopanna, who have won 10 of 12 matches in this impressive series.

Ebden, currently ranked 37th, is projected to rise to 23rd in the world by reaching the final and overtake reigning Australian Open champion Jason Kubler for the top spot in Australia. He could break into the world top 20 if he wins the title.
