The 2023 season for Bianca Andreescu was just starting to heat up. The former world No. 4 was playing strong tennis during the solar double and was battling Ekaterina Aleksandrova in the round of 16 at the Miami Open when disaster struck on Monday night.
Andreescu injured her left shin while moving sideways from her baseline and fell to the court in agony. Here is the footage of the moment she fell.

The No. 31 seeded Canadian remained on the court in agony on her back for several minutes before a wheelchair was brought onto the court to take her away.
While on the court, Andreescu told doctors she had never felt such pain.
This is a devastating moment for a player who has dealt with a lot of injuries over the past few years. Andreescu just picked up her first top 20 win of the season after defeating No. 7 seed Maria Sakkari in Miami. She also defeated former Grand Slam champions Emma Radukanu and Sofia Kenin to advance to the round of 16.

The Canadian was forced to retire to Aleksandrova with the 18th seed, trailing 7-6 (0), 0-2 to RET. Fingers crossed that the injury is not too serious.
After winning the 2019 US Open, Andreescu injured her meniscus and missed the entire 2020 season.
In 2021, she dealt with a foot injury that forced her to withdraw from the Miami final, as well as Covid and mental health issues.
